Performative allyship is the intention to show solidarity for a person or group without taking any action to do so. It is harmful because it makes people think that they're in a safe environment when they are actually not. Performative allies self-indulge to reduce guilt or attract attention, and don't have a vested interest in the freedom of people from marginalization.
